October 5th, 2011 by Kori Hill in Updates, Using AddThis, What's New

The AddThis Address Bar Sharing Analytics feature is now available with in Chrome versions 14 and above. We can now track copy and paste data from Safari, Firefox and Chrome, which covers 50% of the browser market share.

For those who do not know, Address Bar Sharing Analytics is a feature that measures how often users share your site by copying the URL from their address bar and send it via email. IM or other channels. Getting this data is a great way to understand ALL of your content that is being socialized and better understand where some of that direct traffic is coming from.

Turning on Address Bar Sharing Analytics for your website is super easy and only takes one additional line to your AddThis code:

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or feedback.

The Next Level – Welcome Ramsey McGrory as Clearspring’s new CEO
September 26th, 2011 by Hooman Radfar in Milestones

(Originally posted on the Clearspring blog)

Today, we’re taking Clearspring to the next level. I am excited to welcome Ramsey McGrory on as our new CEO. Ramsey joins us from Yahoo! where he led Right Media, the pioneer in the online ad exchange business. From 2004 to 2011 he was with them from start-up what is now a $1 billion annual revenue business. His deep understanding of advertising and data, coupled with a demonstrated ability to deliver value to publishers, advertisers and consumers make him an invaluable addition. Together with our already impressive team, board and investors, we’re confident that this move will help us continue our fantastic growth by better serving our customers.

We have experienced phenomenal growth since our first investor came on in 2006.. AddThis is the now web’s largest sharing platform used by over 9 million publishers, reaching more than 1 billion people worldwide. We process as much data in one week as the Library of Congress. Launched just last year, our Audience Platform leverages data from AddThis to enable hundreds of brands like AT&T and Sony to connect with hundreds of millions of socially-connected users via real-time advertising. And this growth has been recognized. Last week we were named to Business Insider’s Digital 100 Most Valuable Start-ups on the heels of making the Inc500 and AlwaysOn Global 250 Top Private Companies.

We’re at an inflection point. If we continue this growth, we will open up opportunities to serve our customers at a scale we never imagined. To date, we’ve been lucky to bring on amazing people and partners to support our scaling efforts. Our leadership has helped grown the team over 100% in the first half of this year. We are proud to have Springers in McLean, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Dallas, Lancaster, New Jersey, Atlanta and even India. This spring, IVP joined our already-impressive investor team by leading our $20 million Series D financing. With Ramsey on board, we believe that we can now not only keep this pace, but have the ability to go even faster.
As for me, I will now be Executive Chairman and work closely with Ramsey and team. In this new role, I will steer the board and product and marketing operations. AddThis was viewed approximately 2.86 billion times last Monday. If each user viewed the page they visited for at least a second, that’s over 90 collective years of human attention that we saw that day alone. I’m looking forward to figuring out ways to unlock this data to make a better web for us all.As always, we welcome your feedback on how we’re doing and what else you’d like to see from us. We hope that you’re as excited about these changes as we are at Clearspring. Welcome, Ramsey!

AddThis.com Template Refresh
September 20th, 2011 by jeffwongdesign in Design

You’ve probably noticed an update to our site template today. We’ve been incrementally rolling out a new template design to make our pages more consistent. These small updates include more contrast in our main navigation, an updated footer, and a small visual refresh. The update doesn’t change any site navigation, so everything should work the same. Here are some screenshots:

I’d like to take a moment to thank our team for pulling together a nice refresh. In particular, give Foo a pat on the back for a job well done. It’s really exciting to see everything come together, in terms of visual continuity and experience. Let us know if you have any feedback.

P.S. On a completely tangent note, anyone playing Gears of War 3 tonight? Drop us a message if you want to play multiplayer or horde mode with the AddThis team. Our Xbox 360 gamer tag is “Clearspring”. ^_^

New AddThis for Chrome
September 13th, 2011 by jeffwongdesign in Design, Updates

Share at the Speed of Chrome
We’ve updated our Chrome extension with “speed” in mind. Like you, we’re a huge fan of discovering interesting content and sharing it with our friends faster, with less clicks. Our new extension includes inline sharing to Facebook and Twitter, more customization features, and an updated visual design.

Quicker Sharing to Facebook and Twitter
Sharing to Facebook and Twitter will appear as a small inline window. All you have to do is authenticate once, and sharing becomes even more convenient. Here’s how it works if you share to Twitter…

More Customizable, with Over 300 Popular Services
There are other places I like to share to other than Facebook and Twitter. For me, I’ve customized my menu to show services like Instapaper, Gmail, and Tumblr. To customize your own menu, select “Options”. A new tab will open, and you can start customizing your menu as well as manage your connected accounts.

Download AddThis for Chrome
If you haven’t downloaded our extension, click on the image below. As always, send feedback and let us know what you think of the new design. Ps. If you like what you see, give a big high five to Angel and Foo for pulling this awesome update together.

Add Google Social Tracking
September 13th, 2011 by Matthew Keesan in Engineering, Tips, Using AddThis, What's New

Google launched social tracking for Google Analytics in June, to measure social engagement, social actions and social pages. If you’re already using AddThis with GA, you can integrate with one line of code!

You just need to opt-in:

We’ll track the network (e.g. “facebook”), the social action (e.g. “share”), and the target (e.g., http://example.com/your/blog).

If you haven’t already, upgrade to the new version of GA to see the social reports:
Social reports on GA

Google’s got plenty of documentation on the new social analytics features if you need help interpreting their reports. If you’re totally new to Google Analytics and AddThis, check out our help doc on basic integration.

Questions? Comments? Drop us a line in the forums.

Is Your AddThis Code Up-to-Date?
September 9th, 2011 by Jim Lane in Blogroll, Design, Updates, Using AddThis

If it’s been a while since you got your AddThis code, you may not be enjoying all the benefits AddThis analytics have to offer. We’ve introduced a new Code Checkup feature for registered publishers that can examine your site’s AddThis code and determine whether it is up-to-date, and has the most recent features enabled.

Using Code Checkup

To checkup your own site, sign in to AddThis.com. When you start in Analytics, you’ll see a new link called Code Checkup next to your domain:

When you select that link, we’ll examine the code on your index page and make sure you’re all set to go with the latest AddThis analytics features like measuring traffic back to your site from social destinations, and tracking when your visitors copy your URLs into emails and IM conversations:

As always, we’d love to hear what you think about this new feature.

Not Registered with AddThis?

If you didn’t register when you got AddThis for your site, why not create an account and grab the latest code so you can take advantage of features like Code Checkup and industrial-strength analytics with live reporting and audience analysis? It only takes a moment, and we’ve added the latest sharing tools like Twitter Follow and Google +1.
